High Art Paris is pleased to present Dieu, Mélanie Matranga's third solo presentation at the gallery.
Mélanie Matranga creates immersive environments through artworks which function as both subject and setting. Inhabiting space as gestural traces or footprints, fluxes of affections drift through manipulated objects constituting a permeable habitat where intimacy and community conflate. Within this liminal space, desire and pretense seem to populate unbounded, weaving an undetermined narrative laced with what can only be described as a certain malaise. A combination of porous membranes and asphyxiating layers, Matranga employs translucent surfaces, evocative of a kind of heightened vulnerability and sensuality. A particular form of lasciviousness slides on the surfaces of the work, permeating the fluid continuum between interior and exterior, of both ambience and temperament.
Mélanie Matranga was born in Marseille in 1985. The artist graduated from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris (ENSBA) in 2011 and was the winner of the Frieze Art Awards in 2014 and nominated for the Prix Fondation d'entreprise Ricard in 2014 and for the Prix Aware in 2018.
